    Post gears

I have a J&S cam grinder and I don’t under stand the gears. Fore example

A 1 flute cutter the gears are main shaft 50t idler shaft 65t cam shaft 50t
    A 2 flute cutter the gears are 50t 65t 25t
    A 3 flute cutter 75t 65t 25t
    A 4 flute cutter 80t 50t 20t

Now I know 50/50=1 and 50/25=2 ,75/25=3 how do you know what the idler gear is?

If I understand the question correctly...the idler gear doesn't matter. It can be anything that fits, and it won't change the final ratio. For instance, if you have

    50 - 25 - 50, the 50:25 gives you 2:1, but then the 25:50 gives you 1:2, so the net is 1:1.

In your case, it's 50:65, then 65:50, but it still works out to 1:1.

I was thinking that, after I look at it long enough I just couldnt see it. I thought it would change the gearing.

    Thanks a lot

Here's the way to visualize it: 50:65:25, First gear turns one revolution=50 teeth, idler and driven gear also move 50 teeth, which means driven 25 tooth gear makes two revolutions.
