    Default G&E shaper question

Getting ready to wire up my new to me 16" industrial shaper. I need to know the direction of rotation for the motor pulley. The tag on the belt cover is missing which probably showed what the rotation was.

Whichever way it turns the ram should move faster on the return stroke.

True, but the system wont be oiling if the pump is running in the wrong direction. The machine has been sitting awhile so I don't want to run it if everything is dry and no oil is pumping.

Maybe there's an arrow on the gear inside the housing that drives the ram?

Not a direct answer to your question, Abom79 did a complete teardown and rebuild of his 24” G&E shaper, starting with this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=U-E_eLuAH40

Thanks I know that. I just need to find out is clockwise or counter clockwise correct for the rotation of the motor pulley. Any G&E owners out there?

Knowing what i know about crank shapers the bull gear has to turn clockwise so the slide block is near the ram when driving the ram forward, providing the rocker arm pivots at the bottom. So that means that the pinion driving the bull gear has to turn CCW. So figure out from there what direction the motor has to turn to make that happen. I don't know how many gear reversals you have between the motor and the pinion, so I cannot say what direction the motor would have to turn.
