    Post Material for clamping kit

What materials are good for making clamping kit parts i.e. tee nuts studs etc?

I can't make them as cheap as I can buy them.

    www.grainger.com is one source,
    MSC is another.

On ebay, there are milling machine kits for $29.00

I got a american version, paid more, not sure it was worth it.

The Jergens catalog shows their studs as 4140 or Stressproof. The straps, nuts, and T-nuts as 1018. Personally I would use whatever I had handy. I made some out of 12L14 for a rotary table that had non-standard T-slots. I didn't make studs I just use all-thread or SHCSs.

Yea I realise you can buy them pretty cheap, thought it would be a good little project for a rainy day.

One of the problems these days is all this import stuff is getting that cheap no one makes anything for them selves any more. Also I shake my head in disgust when I see some of the crap we waste our hard earned overseas funds on. Much rather see more local (my) input.

Actually Jon you might be onto much the same as what I have here, they are going to be for a rotary table. The slots seem a bit smaller than what I already use, so I thought I would make some that bit smaller to suit. I use a fair bit of 4140 around the place maybe I'll see if any of it is the right size.
