I replaced the twist switch on a "chinese" lathe for someone recently.

It required a three position/three pole switch.

One switches the hot, either outer position is on,
Other poles switches the blue/black wires that reversed it. Common the blue neutral on one side, hot on the other, common the black hot (on blue neutral side) and neutral on other side.

This switched the motor start polarity and turned on the main coil inside the motor.

Yours may be different. Post us a picture.

I have several "Drum" switches here. if you need a switch, that'd work too. OR, a two pole two position switch and a single pole off-on switch would work as well as the three pole three position switch (odd and hard to find)

    Bob,
What sort of switch did you have fitted to start with, a Dewhurst or a Santon
The dewhurst has 8 terminals and the Santon has 6.
Also what type of switch was you thinking of fitting.

Thanks. There is no makers name on the old switch but it certainly isn't the Dewhurst type.I can get a photo to you if this will help.I'll fit anything which will get the machine running again.
