Bushings

Hey Folks,

I am in the middle of re-bushing a ciment mixer suport arm. The arm is cast iron with a 7/8" shaft about 4" long piercing the casting. I have machined the casting to accept a 1.24o" bushing with a 7/8" hole for the afore mentioned shaft.

Ok now the questions. What should i make these bushing out of? Would just a metal bushing be ok? It is just a ciment mixer and there is a grease zert.

My preference is bronze bushings. In this case you can make two bushings, press one in from each end, leaving the center open for the grease zert.

I had done a portable cement mixer repair job for a friend in the fence and concrete field. I used SAE 841 oil impregnated bronze. Since it is self lubricating, in addition to being wear and corrosion resistant, I had opted for the SAE 841 as lubrication would most likely happen infrequently. Fifteen years later, though not every day, he is still using that same mixer on the same repair.

I figured it out by working in computers for 25 years and seeing every sort of weird problem you can imagine. I come here to learn machining for my new hobby. I can't answer many machining questions but can at least help with the computer ones.
