    Default Yet another Photobucket stunt

    I've been systematically going back through the archives - lots of good stuff. In earlier times most of the pics were hosted on Photobucket, and since their fiasco last year the pics have had a large, intrusive watermark. Still, often I could see most of the pic behind the watermark.

    New stunt now: for the last couple of days all the pics have been very out-of-focus. Nope, it's not me or my computer, the pics are OOF but the watermark is nice and sharp.

    Here's an example: http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net/thr...594#post530594

    Wonder what they're up to - is this finally the end of PB? It'd be sad to see all those old threads with no pics.

    Pics are in focus for me and I can't see any watermark.

    Edit to add: I either see the pics or absolutely nothing, just a blank space.

    The ones with a watermark are fuzzed out. What a shame.

    At the end of the project, there is a profound difference between spare parts and extra parts.

    If you search through the user's album you can find a clear non-watermarked image:

    But PukeBucket will probably find another way to punish those who refuse to pay for their extortion. If you value the content of your own posts, please immunize them against PB's wrath by rehosting the photos elsewhere, or archiving the post as a PDF or screenshot JPG/PNG.

    [edit] It showed up clear when I first posted it, but got blurred when I refreshed the page,

    <img data-link="src{:thumbUrl} alt{:alt}" src="https://img.photobucket.com/albums/0803/jstanley/tilttable1.jpg?width=200&amp;height=200&amp;crop=1 :1,smart" alt=" photo tilttable1.jpg">

    The link above is what seems to provide a clear image:

    I opened the gallery using a private window in Firefox and I was able to get this clear screenshot:

    It's just photobucket's way of trying to extort money out of their "free" service users.

    Hmmm. Well, I know little about modern internet stuff, but I suspect that PB has multiple servers and is installing the change one at a time. Try tomorrow, will you?

    It almost seems like PB is somehow identifying the source of the HTTP request, and serving up the transmogrified image accordingly. Perhaps it is attempting to obscure the images for anyone who is not a current paid-up subscriber?

    BTW, the PB album's user name is jstanley, while the posts are Jerry Tiers. Haven't heard from him in a long time. Did he get PO'd at somebody here?

    They are placing it on accounts that consume (via linking to the likes of this site) for than 25 mbits each month. I've has a few nasty grams telling me to subscribe at $4.95 per month or they'll fuzz me. They probably have.
