Default Anybody in western Canada use Durabar ? cast iron rod.

I am working on something where I need 1 ft maximum of 1 3/4 round bar.
but the supplier wants to sell me 6 feet minimum.
So let me know if you use this product, and may need some. Thanks.

I checked with Vanguard Steel in Vancouver this morning. They sell a "Durabar" equivalent.

Smallest diameter they have is just under 2-1/4" and the shortest piece they'll sell is a foot
which would cost about $18.00 plus taxes and shipping. They will ship anywhere. Hope this helps...

    Ask for Paul or Trevor...

I bought some from Encore Metals in Delta and they cut me the lengths that I needed. Most of them were less than a foot long.

I don't know about Encore but the price I mentioned above from Vanguard was for a single 12" piece.
Their price per pound for smaller pieces is going to be higher but they'll sell any size. Here's a link to
their catalogues--Specialty Steels is the one you want...

thanks for the help guys, I ended up taking the 6 feet. , so I will have lots left over. I will keep that info for next time.
we are sleeping a lifter bore in a 4 cylinder block.
Are you guys using cast iron for anything else ? I have made the odd valve guide in the past, usually used an old car camshaft for material..
