Post New Carburizing Method Developed

Well, it's not all that new, since the most recent patent dates from 1999, but this is first I've heard of it. http://www.yet2.com/app/list/techpak...3&sid=90&abc=0
This automated component carburization system will integrate all of the steps of the carburization process to help reduce production costs while improving the quality of treated components.

Benefits Summary

This patented technology provides a system for automated carburizing of a component, such as a gear, by integrating the manufacturing process. Utilizing this technique will conserve energy which, in turn, will lower production costs and increase the bottom line. Another benefit of this technology is the protective atmosphere which encompasses the process. This protective atmosphere protects the component from air cooling, thus reducing the amount of scale produced on the component surface.

Is this the same as case-hardening?

Guero...

As far as I know it is.

Did you also throw away that stupid spring on your chuck key when you took Myfords useless chuck guard off.

I soon got fed up of the chuck guard and my chuck key falling out of its socket

Allan.

Allan, I got rid of the chuck key spring and the next thing I threw into the woods was the oil gun that came with the Myford. I made up a couple of nozzles to fit high-pressure grease guns and have been using one gun for way lube (on the carriage way lube fittings) and the other for the spindle and carriage. The first time I lubed the carriage with the high-pressure gun the pressure actually locked the carriage for a brief period. That Myford oil gun was one of the most pitiful things I've ever seen but I hear they're offering a new model made in Sweden or Switzerland.... somewhere on the continent.
