Looks like a fun project. Yer gonna use Mach 3 right? LOL.*** I always wanted a welding stinger that looked like the north end of a south bound chicken. Often my welds look like somebody pointed the wrong end of a chicken at the joint and squeezed until something came out. Might as well look the part.

Lol - probably not.. Along with threading (yes, I know mach can thread in some form..) I want to play with some large non-circular turning. (dad wants it to crown some bandsaw wheels also.)

Well, last time I checked I could still get PCI parallel port cards from CNA for less than $20. I might still have one or two still in the box.
I started to be serious Bob up above and tell you that the first time I ran over a million lines of code successfully it was using a parallel port with Mach 3 to drive my Taig. Then smartass Bob took over and that thought went right out the window. I actually have a couple UC100s on my desk I was thinking about using for play setups, but since I went full time pro I just don't have the time to build anything just to play with anymore. I will say after my experience with the Tormach Mill running Path Pilot I am seriously considering COUGH Linuxcnc COUGH for the cast steel (and maybe epoxycrete) machine i am working on. I'll be running a lot larger jobs (multiple parts batches) on it and file size could easily exceed the 10 million line limit for Mach 3. Mach 4 does not interest me at all. Sorry, went off on my own thing there.
ANYWAY... I'd be really curious to see progress on your project.*** I always wanted a welding stinger that looked like the north end of a south bound chicken. Instead of a spindle it looks like it has an inline engine. LOL.

Sa-weet!
You are inspiring me to want to get back on my little lathe project. The thing is is I was thinking about just using it as a free spin motorized axis on one of the milling machines.
