  • removing chrome

I'm wondering if there's a way to dissolve the chrome plating over brass, without touching the brass. There's a chemical for everything, isn't there?
This would be- tape up to protect the chrome that is wanted, dip the part until done, then wash clean, polish, then apply a protective coating.
I seldom do anything within the scope of logical reason and calculated cost/benefit, etc- I'm following my passion-

Chrome is a clear coating over a nickle plate. You must strip the existing chrome using an acid solution consisting of 2 parts water to 1 part muriatic or hydrochloric acid. ALWAYS ADD ACID TO WATER! NEVER WATER TO ACID! To remove the underlying nickle you can keep working the acid mix or there is a nickle stripper you can get from www.caswellplating.com
