  • norton surface grinder

i got it home yesterday and is still on trailer. serial no. h6837 1942. i would like to find owner, service manual if possible. any help greatly appreciated as i have no experience with these machines. thanks mickm.

These machines were made in the 1940's so it may be difficult to find the owner (owners).

Machinery Manuals Online http://www.machinerybrochures.com/shop/page1693.html lists instruction manuals for Norton surface grinders -- be sure you're sitting down before looking at the prices.

          Mark,

That's the cleanest surface grinder I've seen ------- where's all the coolant spilled on the floor & all that black grinding dust that collects at the left end!!!

talk about clean.....it will clean your wallet out at the price they want for it.

            http://www.nsmachine.com/10512.html

even after the reduced price !!!!

oh yea the serrial number is H-2700
that means it's even older than mickm's

I was offered one at $750 with mag chuck. It is just a bigger footprint machine than the space I (don't) have!

I love mine, they are invaluable .
                here's my bridgeport's machine vise .
I took the jaws off it a few weeks ago and reground them.
                better than new ....well almost

                    It's performing faultlessly.
                    unlike myself.
hope to be making your new draw bar in the next few days.

thanks to all who responded to my query about grinder. it is like one in picture but hydraulic drive. it was under power when i looked at it and seems to run good but a lot of play in reversing lever, needs a nudge each time to shift directions. will bleeker has manual and i have tried to e-mail himbut my computer has mind of its oun and don't know if it went thru.thanks again to all mickm

Take a look at the linkages under the saddle, the pin holes may be worn. There is also a tie rod adjustment for the revese handle on top.

Check your email, when you write email don't put the whole message in the subject line! My Norton is no 2442 of 1942 maybe they shipped them to the colonies first!
