  • Tailstock Question Logan SB

Hello, I have a 10" Logan Lathe and was wondering what the little hole is for on top of the tailstock, on the operator's side. I think I've seen a similar hole on South Bend's 9" lathe tailstock too.

I filled mine with a brass plug tapped out 1/4-20. (Light Press/ Driving Fit) I can now attach a dial indicator and have it hit a plate made for the tailstock ram.

Just wondering what the real/original use was for these.

    Thanks,

    James

The hole was used for cup grease or white lead to use on the dead center.
