  • Incra fence

AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH, I have had this fence for five years, FIVE YEARS. Not a scratch. the other day I dinged it against the blade. Stupid me I left the blade running when I went to move it, something I have neve done before, will never do again.
I am so pissed. Can't live with it, will call Incra for a new fence rail. That will be my punishment for stupidity.

get yourself a piece of UHMW and screw it to the side. It will be slippier, and you wont even know that scratch is there.

Spend that money on machine tools...not table saw parts!

Listen to Snowman, that would be an improvement over what you had.

spend your money on woodtools if you wish this is a nice saw fence but the addition of the new plastic face would help I built my own beisemeyer fence and put on as with biesemeyer additional faces .Alistair

Can't buff it, it is through the anodizing and into the aluminum.

                Snowman,
I like the UHMW idea, embarrassed that I didn't think of it, expecialy since I have some around here somewhere. Should have put it on before.

                Uncrichie,
Yup as I said something I have never done before. That is why I am so pissed.

Ultra High Molecular Weight plastic, looking much like kitchen cutting boards. Available through any large woodworking supplier

Paul - As someone here once said to me: don't beat yourself up over it. We all poke ourselves in the eye once in a while. You weren't hurt. That's big plus number one. Big plus number two: you learned. And finally, the idea for the UHMW slide on the face of the fence came up.

Let me say again. You weren't hurt.

It it were my setup I'd use the effort to buy/build some zero clearance saw blade inserts! They may not work with that blade. I gotta ask, what is that blade?

If you're not familar with the zero clearance inserts they throw a lot less dust in your face and are much less of a distraction when ripping very thin pieces. I always hated wondering if the thin waste would get stuck between the blade and the insert.

The UHMW works great as a fence glide. Makes ripping a large quantitiy of wood much less stressful as it's easier to push. If you use sillycone then you contaminate any wood finish you put over the fresh wood.
