  • Hockey Pucks

I was reading YOD's reply to cuemaker's post and I thought I'd mention that I use hockey pucks quite a bit in my shop.

The rubber is hard enough to drill, machine, etc. and soft enough to have a little give. I have used them for machine levelling, tap guides, and I have a few with a v groove cut into them and a few holes in the groove. They work great for punching out roll pins without marring the surface.

Best of all -they are cheap.

Up here in Canada, a walk around an outdoor hockey rink in the spring will usually net you about a half dozen or so. Sorta like picking mushrooms....

I also use them in the drill press as a base when I am drilling. I Use the one with a v cut in it a lot.

A friend of mine levelled his lathe by machining the pucks to different thicknesses for the feet of the machine.

Probably a lot more uses I haven't even thought of.

    FWIW

    Rick.

Them things are "RARE" down heah in the south.

I keep hearing what marvelous uses they have but never laid hands on one.

My wife and her buxomly redheaded friend went to the hocky game in Atlanta. They put her big boobs up onto the scoreboard as she was laughing and them big puppies were heaving..

Carrol came home with tears in her eyes laughing.. Good thing we all have a sense of humor down heah. Some people get sued for less than that. Of course with the scantily clad women enjoying the hot and humid weather down heah, we all get to see some big puppies now and then.. Kinda like Jethro Bodine chasing his cousin around the cement pond. C'mere Ellie.. whoo hoo...

I have used hockey pucks to replace the cab mounts on my old truck.

They also make excellent wheels for childrens toys.

Sounds like they would be neat to have around. Do you know how hard it would be to find them in Az? Hey, I got an idea, anybody want to trade some pucks for some scorpions, gila monsters, trantulas or something else?

Rick, it sounds like this should have made it into one of the tipsbooks. Did it? Maybe we have the start of "Tipsbook 3"?
