The way it was related to me:you "zap"them with a quick reverse polarity "touch",definitely not a reverse polarity charge.The ni-cad would overheat and explode.
Having tried this dodge,I can't say it was a success.What i do nowadays is take out the faulty cell in the pack(it's usually just the one that's gone,unless your pack is REALLY old)and replace it.Still a helluva lot cheaper than a new pack.my $0.02.hans.
