  • VJ Day

The old diggers had their parade the other day and I was unable to attend and pay my respects. Today I am going to see my old mate, shake his hand and thank him. He served in the Pacific during WW2 and then in Korea. He has told me some of what went on but mostly he doesn`t get too specific except to say it was the greatest adventure of his life.

Thanks to all the men and women who served then and those who serve now.

We just had our (Canadians) last Victoria Cross recipient from WWII pass away last week. Private "Smokey" Smith, 89. Amazing story, not from Japan, but from Italy. Soldiers from all nations, the foundation of our free society. We owe them all a debt of gratitude.

What a man! That is one hell of a yarn.
IMO. Most of us have never faced death and so live out our safe existance not knowing the true value of life.
