  • Cheap new electrical toy I mean tool...

I got a 10mhz velleman scope off ebay for $149 plus shipping.

Kinda slow, it won't do everything, but setting up dc drives and servo drives you can take a peek at what it is doing. If I was doing full time electronic work I'd have to have at least a 100mhz or faster.

Years ago, my friend got a fluke scopemeter, we were working in a carpet mill full of mexican workers. He had it on record and we were trying to diagnose a problem on a dc drive. WE came back from break and the leads were still on the drive, but the meter was history. Back then, they were $1800.. And No the company we worked for didn't buy him a replacement for the one he lost. *out of pocket.
When you're working with a bunch of starving apache indians you can expect to get skinned.

10 mHz is pretty good for a pocket scope.

Some of the older ones were 300kHz and 1mHz.....

      Keep eye on ball.
