  • Metal torsion box construction question

    Hey guys!
I'm hoping someone here has some experience with this. I've monkeyed around with it years ago doing wood work and even talked some engineers at a R+D (job I had for awhile) into using it on a problematic mount for a grain header mount on a harvester. Ha...It worked fine but I was just guessing.
What I want to do is build a super lightweight crossmember for a 4wld truck.
    It'll mount the tranny/t-case.
I have it figured out how to build it but ?I'm not sure what thickness of materials etc to use.
    Anyone?
    Thanks!

    Torker,

You're bending & welding it out of steel sheet? A good starting place would be to look at similar existing mounts on 4WD trucks - the manufacturers probably aren't wasting too much metal on making them overstrong, and yet they're likely to be doing the job.
