  • John Stevenson’s gear hob

John thanks for posting the “Gear Hobbing Without Change Gearsâ€‌ it has been interesting reading.

Since I am just getting into metal working as a hobby, please answer a novice question. I was under the impression when cutting helical gears the rotation of the gear blank had to be adjusted for the lead in the helical gear. I don’t see where this is accommodated in the your system. What I do see is the gear blank is set at a 45 degree angle on the table.

Is this all there is to cutting a 45 degree helical gear with a hob?

Curiosity killed the cat and satisfaction brought him back.
