It is a excellent use of your time to teardown, clean and inspect a older machine.
You have headed off some problems with the lube system that would only have caused damage and now completely understand the machine.

I bought a used Frejoth at an auction 30 years ago. (Paid WAY more than you did.) Dismantled it enough to move it into the basement, but haven't been into the head at all. I've been very pleased with it. You have a nice machine. Excellent score.
