The Radial Five

I decided to start a new thread about my progress on the Radial 5. There's a couple photos on the "what did you machine today" thread. The cylinders are fit to the crankcase now, but I need to drill holes for the mounting bolts and exhaust ports. HSM ran a construction series by Rudy Kouhoupt beginning with the May/June 2003 issue.

So.... any chance of this being a warmup for a running scale model of a P&W Wasp Major?

Thanks for the replies. This is a air engine. 2 cycle, with a rotary supply valve and exhaust ports near the bottom of the cylinders.

This is is an exercise in fit and finish. I'll move on to IC engines soon. Ya gotta crawl before you walk, and walk before you run, no?

I'm with you on the crawl, walk and THEN run. I've done a lot of bits and bobs for the lathe and other hobbies. And in a short while I want to start on a single cylinder steam engine. Then another and another and....

Well, I drilled and tapped the cylinder and cylinder head attachment holes. So far, I've threaded 61,
2-56 holes. I think I've got about 20 more to do. I am short some screws and need to order a box.

Here's a couple photos of my fixture for keeping the holes at the proper angle. All the locations for hardware have been located by coordinates, so all the parts are interchangeable and fit anyway you want to orient them. This way I can hide the ugly spots as needed!!
