  • OT: Campers in one of our pastures!

Yesterday we had a very nice young couple drive into our place and ask us if they could maybe set up a tent and camp in one of our pastures for a few days! They live in a small apartment in the city and are going stir crazy. My wife and I looked at each other and I said why not! I directed them to the top of a hilltop pasture where there is a nice little crick and trees and they had access to the forest. We really felt sorry for them! They were really thank full and happy! I did tell them not to burn our woods and pasture down! You see guys I am not so bad as you think!

Did you keep the bull and cows in the barn lot - or are they out there in the pasture also?

Do you milk cows? You could offer them cow-fresh milk for their breakfasts. Of course if you don't have a cow you could always open a bottle or two into a tin pail and have it on hand when they call!!

I asked them if they needed anything. They told us they had everything with them and were all set. The tent was quite large they set up. It looked like ten people could sleep in it.

Nice to know you don't spread dung over all your visitors.

When I saw the subject, I wondered about his method to cover an entire tent and campsite.

Pretty sure this is how Woodstock got started.

Apparently there is a difference depending on whether people ask nicely, or simply feel entitled. Who'd a thunk it?

What do you mean? I am not from Natick but I have been there many times if you are referring to Natick Massachusetts.

Yeah, next thing you know they'll have a guitar out- then a friend or two will show up with more guitars. Pretty soon you'll hear the unmistakable sound of VW microbuses coming up the road- you might have to provide breakfast in bed for 400,000-

I have a farm with a stocked trout stream that runs through it in Western Pennsylvania. The first year I had it, a man asked me if him and his family could camp and fish. Picturing a family of four or five,I said yes. The next morning I found 37 motorhomes and camper's with more on the way! Woodstock was the first thing I thought of. Needless to say I learned something about granting permission!

Lockdown finished in Germany? Definitely no camping at the moment in the UK or they'd be flooding out of the cities. Rather pleased that this weekend I've actually seen fewer bikers and hikers than a weekday and almost nobody on Saturday eventing so I assumed there must be something good on TV.

The funny thing is that when I was reading your other post about the trespassing cyclists, I had the thought the if they had simply asked if it was OK to stop and take a break at your fire pit, it was highly likely that you would have given them permission. Asking permission is such a simple thing really and most people will respond in a positive way if you show them the slightest bit of respect.

I am thinking more along the lines of the horses getting breakfast in bed and a lot of farm chores getting done...
