Windows 7 only problem? Hard to tell who else is afflicted, but an email to George confirmed I am not alone. I had to sign in with the iPad to send this. The I.E browser will read but has no ability to post new thread or reply. Is it time for a new laptop, browser, or the latest version of Windows? I would ask how many other browsers are having trouble, but those that are cannot respond.

I sent a message to vBulletin but have not heard back and really don't expect to. I do not know if this is entirely browser related or not, but it looks like most having problems are on Win7. Am guessing that vB won't be investing time to continue to support it.
You may get lucky by trying a different browser.
We ran into problems with our last bulletin board setup, as we held onto things long enough that we started to have compatibility issues due to the age of our platform. Now that we have switched to a system that is continuously updated, it looks like we are on the other side of things – having issues with the users' platforms.George

If you go to the latest version of Windows, it's likely that you will need to get a new laptop too. Check their compatibility tool before you try to upgrade.
You should have no real problems if you simply install Firefox in addition to IE. MS should not be doing anything to screw with the Firefox capabilities.

Although not HDM fault it is due to a change in the host software. Absolutely nothing has changed on my computer but a couple of weeks ago certain functions of the forum stopped working. This means they deliberately changed parts of the code that is sent to the pages. They may not realise they did this as they failed to inform clients (ie HSM) that they were making any changes indicating they are a bunch of cowboys not operating any of the recognised quality control procedures. It is perfectly possible to have several browsers running simultaneously and I often do for work but to log in to HSM on a different one you have to remember your password which might be a problem.

Yep, this was all noted a week or more ago. I can't even change my password. If I log-out, I'm sure the new log-in code won't run on my machine. I can still post text but that's about it. To see the message I just posted, I have to view the whole thread again from the home page--There's no more confirmation or preview. And it all boils down to money. It's a shame. Or is that sham?

I always view and post on this forum using a new private window in Firefox. I found this was necessary to see some images I had included that were hosted on my server, which is not https. I had a similar issue with the Microchip forum. I'm running Windows 10, which does everything I need to do, with some annoyances. I liked the Windows Movie Maker which ran on XP and Vista, and Windows Live Movie maker on Win7 and Win8, but they won't work on Win10. I also had problems with my TurboCAD Pro which worked up to Win8 but was broken in 8.1 and Win10. I didn't want to spend over $1000 for the new Pro version, which will do solid modeling, but my $200 Deluxe version does surface modeling, which works well enough. And I also have working computers that run Win8, Win7, Vista, XP, Win98, and Win95, all of which are perfectly fine and safe to use as long as they are not networked, which is just a minor annoyance.
My current laptop also dual boots Linux Ubuntu, which I found perfectly capable for web surfing, forums, email, and many other common purposes. But I needed Windows for CAD and PCB design software, so I use the current version of Win10. I resisted to imperative of accepting regular updates, but they have not caused any major problems, and I'm satisfied with it. Resistance is futile and wastes energy.
[edit] I don't see why buying a new computer every few years is such a big deal. I have mostly spent between $200 and $500 for my machines for the last 15-20 years or so, and they have generally worked fine for 2-4 years before become balky or having sticky keyboards and such. Some of my older machines were freebies or $30 private sales, and some required new keyboards and hard drives, but no major hassles.http://pauleschoen.com/pix/PM08_P76_P54.png

I have to laugh at the comment "your fix is to buy a new computer". I'm using a 4 year old dell laptop. My desktop machine is from around 2007. I'd be the last to suggest a new computer UNLESS your needs evolve and require new capabilities. That's the standard I use for computers, TVs and cell phones. As long as they do what I want, no need to upgrade.
But feel free to ignore my posts Ken. In exchange I'll try not to waste time trying to help you in the future.
Back on topic... does anyone know if Microsoft Edge (the supported web browser) works on Win7?
