Be carefull with those small yet powerfull led flashlights

Had a small Armytek wizard on my jacket pocket turn on itself. Kiddo said that I have light inside my jacket and same moment I notice my jacket is already smoking! Burnt nice hole on my jacket

takes like 5 seconds to burn hole in a light fleece type cloth like shown on video!

How does one know if the light is powerful enough to cause a fire without trying.
. What tells you about its power?

It probably depends on reflector type and so on but if the light beam feels hot to your finger it is probably a risk also in your pocket. Thumb placed in front of the Armytek Wizard lens gets uncomfortably hot in a one second.
Lumen output might be also some type of indicator:
Wizard is rated for something like 2000Lm on highest turbo mode and it burns trough fleece cloth in couple of seconds.
Second-highest mode is 1000Lm and that was enough to burn the hole in my jacket.

Reflector/Optics type seem to have something to do with it also: TIR optics on Wizard create wide flood far away but extremely tight spot right at the lens.
Reflector on Convoy S2 is opposite, tight spot on far away but larger donut-shaped pattern up close.

Convoy S2 takes like 20-30 seconds before first wisps of smoke appear and it doesn't burn holes to fleece.
Armytek Wizard burns hole in 6 seconds with similar input power. (2.2A on second highest setting)

I could see airlines banning those types, even for pilots.

Something that happened in the past to your jacket, it got burned.
Describing as an identifier, your burnt jacket. (past participle).
Like your toast had burned, now you have burnt toast.
Not everything is burnt. Some time in it's life, it had burned.

Now are you going to weld it up, or weld it out.?

LED flashlights with temperature sensing that steps the output down above a certain temperature are pretty handy, though that may not have saved your jacket in this case.

Wizard has temperature regulation but it is not any help when the flashlight itself is cool to touch and the light beam set things on fire.

Good grief, that looks like a class action product liability suit in the making.

I see where the cordless tool market is going to higher and higher voltages, saw one the other day advertised as 60v. How long before enough becomes too much with those?
I just need one more tool, just one!

Solly, never really learnt any English grammar in school. Hell, I suck even on my native language...

none of my many 10 w lights get hot. the button is hard to push and is protected. besides you have to push most of them twice to get full output. is this about stronger lights?

This is abouts 20 watts on highest mode and 10 watts on second highest. Mode memory so it will start at the last setting. Even the ~10w setting is enough to make new holes to pockets.

TIR (total internal reflection) optics seem to have something to with it.

So now you can burn cloth with leds. We're getting closer-
I seldom do anything within the scope of logical reason and calculated cost/benefit, etc- I'm following my passion-
