  • Shipping costs

I have an MG engine for sale on eBay and I'm getting crazy expensive shipping quotes. It's tiny as car engines go but I'm getting prices over $400.00 just to ship from philadelphia to long island. Anyone done this? The motor is only worth $400 or so.

You might try Fastenal. They offer shipping between their locations at an attractive price. You can get an estimate on their website.

Thanks. I forgot about them. There's one near my work, too.

Or any LTL (less than load) broker. Shipping costs are ridiculous across the board these days.

good tip. I shipped a crated Atlas 618 (similar size, ish?) from WA to VA using Fastenal for $150. Crated weight was 130-150lb.

A friend in Connecticut sold an engine to a guy in Maryland. They figured the half-way point (Walt Whitman Service Area on the NJ Turnpike), and met there to exchange cash for engine.

Fortunately the guy who actually bought it lives in Lancaster. I'm meeting him halfway on the turnpike.

I purchased my lathe on E-bay. I was aware of the shipping costs so I limited my bids to an area where I could make a day trip of it. This was around 15 to 20 years ago so the problem is not a new thing.

The seller was about three states away. We met in a mall parking lot about half way and had a nice chat. I think my wife enjoyed the trip and the opportunity to eat out. So did I.

And if you look REAL close at an analog signal,
You will find that it has discrete steps.

Shipping costs are out of control and can kill a lot of deals. I've had it happen a few times.

Try selling something light to a person overseas. For 5 lb to Australia, over $100 was the quote I got. Deal successfully killed.

The chinese sure get a sweet deal sending to the US..... quick delivery, and low or no shipping cost. Too bad it will not work for outgoing mail.

A couple years ago I bought two items off ebay within hours of each other. One from the land of the chicoms, a small item, actually it was one of those digital tachometers that someone here pointed out to me, and one from what was once known as the USA. Three days later I received a small package in the mail and was wondering..... what's this, not expecting anything from china for weeks. Well, it was my ebay item from china. The other package from across the country arrived 8 days later and it was sent priority mail flat rate. I followed the tracking daily and it sat for several days at a couple different locations, presumably distribution centers / hubs.
So who's getting a sweet deal here as far as shipping rates and handling time??

I have read the Greyhound offers some cheap freight options.
