I made some motorcycle footpegs like that many years ago by single pointing a coarse thread in both directions. Well, I attempted to make some anyway. They turned out pretty crappy and I abandoned the idea and went back to knurling.

A 90 or 120 degree cutter would work better than a 60 degree cutter for knurling.

Single point threading. The nuts are not threaded with both hands like the screw - one nut is right hand, one nut is left hand.

The male and female threads cannot actually match as the thread angles will be different. Only a slack fit allows the nuts to run on the double male thread. Think about it.
