  • O/T: Tool Opinion. HILTEX 1/4" Hex Screwdriver Bit Set

Normally dont like to give opinions to a bunch of Machinists, cause you know.

But I bought these cause my 1990s craftsman set is getting real thin.

I had a slotted screw (blade) that was stuck but good. It was a thin slotted screw head and I didnt want to wreck one of my good screw drivers.

So I chucked up the magnetic holder in my makita impact driver and loaded it with the smallest blade bit and leaned in on it. Impact hammer was set to high and it was rockin and rollin. Screw never came out, of course.

But the bit never left the slot and didnt even get a scratch much less shatter. Yeah, I have had them shatter.

So, for ten bucks I cant even buy 61 inches of high carbon hex in 1/4". But you can get these. JR

FYI. No need to bash it in re china and all. Its a good tool.

Lowes and Home Depot carry this SKIL set, and they are pretty good.

Right? I did not want to subject my thin blade, good Drivers for this exploration.

FYI. It was fun. I expected it to jump out of the slot. First couple of taps.

"Flat screw" was not moving and the bit didnt tear out and ruin the screw top. JR

Awhile back at Princess Auto in the surplus section I came across a manual impact driver that takes 1/4" bits and I've used it a couple of times where I couldn't get a regular screwdriver to do the job so I'm quite happy with it.
