  • 12 tooth gear and 1/4 pitch worm gear

Well, my buddy's old South Bend 10K kicked my Hardinge's ass making the worm gear.
I made the 12 tooth mating gear.
Both are unconventional in tooth profile, but work very well for the 1 r/hour speed.
Some minor clean up to do on the worm, and set screws to be installed yet.

Looks great. I was thinking of a standard involute gear but for a clock type mechanism lots of profiles are used.

Why is that? Isn't it just a very course square thread?

Yes! The challenge came by the fact that my Hardinge could not readily cut a 4 pitch thread!
Hence, my comment about my buddy’s SB.
