That's beautiful work in more ways than one. In my experience, once a weld has cooled down below the point of glowing, then you can get the nice colors. His shielding gas is covering the weld only long enough to let it get down into the range of tempering colors, say 300F to 600F. So probably he's using a fairly slow flow rate <= 20CFH. Cheap-n-nasty 304 SS gives the most and prettiest colors BTW -- dunno why, is it the chromium oxides?Originally posted by 754 View Post

Some wonderful looking welds are made by orbital welders... All I had to do was tack the joints and press the button.
