    Shortening the male end will not help in this instance if I understand the original post correctly. He is saying that the hole is already tapped too deep, which makes the pitch diameter at the hole entry too large, allowing the fitting to sink too deeply and crashing the surface of the part into the wrench flats before it tightens up. To fix this he'll need to either machine clearance for the flats by removing some from the entry surface, open the hole to the next size and use a reducer bushing or go through the whole rigamarole of trying to weld up the hole and remachine it.

      i wonder why there are no fittings for this situation, just a bit longer (to be cut off?) or are there?

        Are you sure it's the female that's the issue? If you're reusing the fitting its possible it was crushed by overtightening in the past.
