early 1940's Delta 14" drill press

A recent project to help organize bits and pieces at the drill press.
This should help to minimize the accumulation of too much stuff on the table.
I've attached magnets in pockets on the little bracket/shelf.
this holds an easily removable small bread pan to keep related stuffs in.
it's pretty stout, and could double as a spot to plant a mag base dial indicator on
if I should find the need to..

My mistake, I've been doing that a lot lately.

Hal, The box with the red tag is a period correct Delta power down feed attachment !
it was missing some parts which I had fun making in the home shop.

I like the detail with the “bondo” around the hinge. Looks perfect after paint.

"bondo" it is. just a little playing around with design.
i might add a small lever handle at the pinch point to replace
the Allen head shoulder screw.

Very nice work! That drill press looks like it just entered service yesterday. It's obvious that shoddy work is NOT part of your bag of tricks.

Did you just happen to have/find some pipe of the right curvature/radius to fit your drill press column, or did you fabricate that?

Got a short length of 3 1/2" ID steel pipe from a buddy.
As you probably know, pipe sizes are not precise, in this case the pipe id
was more like 3 9/16"
The drill press column is 3 1/2" so even after slicing the the pipe into two
equal pieces, when placed over the column it only contacted in two spots.

This didn't seem to pose any real concern, so I just allowed that fit to remain
as is and moved along with the build.
Seems to work just fine.

Line the 3-9/16 part with inner tube rubber. It'll make up the difference in diameter, and will prevent marring the drill press post.

The attention to detail like using the Bondo to make the welded parts look more like they were cast is a really nice touch. And yeah, just a couple of strips of the innertube rubber would do the job. Your intent to make it look like it was OEM from back in the day succeeded with a flair to it. The only thing that marks it as modern would be the strength of the magnets for their size. But I won't tell....

The magnets can only be seen when the bread pan is removed
for cleaning or loading with whatever I happen to need at the moment.
The magnets have a center hole for a screw, and came in a
plastic tube with plastic washers in between each magnet to keep
them separated.
I decided to incorporate those washers over the magnets to
help stop swarf and debris from collecting on them.
The bread pan is quite thin and didn't stay put very well
on it's own, so I dropped on a length of 3/16" steel plate
into the bottom of the pan.

Now the pan stays where I put it!
Got a laugh from the 'But I wont tell..."
