Got drunk last night and did some machining --- 26"X33" X 5/8ths", try holding +/- 2/10ths on your lathe with some douglas fir this size and then get back to me...

They make this neat tool called, IIRC, a "router". Works pretty well for stuff like that.

I know I know - but - I didn't have to buy one...

ehh plus this is kinda hard to do with a router, so looking back at it it's all kinda making pretty good sense now...

If all I need to hold is +/- 2 tenths on wood, then I just use my Swedish lathe.

I turned a 12 foot sailboat mast on my 20"x36" lathe. Try that on your mill

And this is the best instrument for +/- .0002" precision. Just make sure you don't hold the wood in your hand to assure thermal stability.

Talk about insta-karma that's a keeper, and brought a smile to the young lady's face --- sounds like a win win to me,,,


look at it this way with the mill - at least I got to totally test out the DRO fix and it's working like a charm has not skipped a beat since I replaced that surface mount resistor....
