OT tough pick up trucks.

I have always been in awe when it comes to seeing the pick up trucks in the U S of A. They are so big. So I was suprized to see how much respect these youtube guys had for this toyota pick up. In my country virtually every farmer has one and I have spent over twenty years using one for my plumbing vehicle.
They are real tough. Its painful to watch what they do to this vehicle and their are a few of these videos.
It seems these days you own a vehicle for five years and it reaches their obsolescence. Not so with these hiluxes. I must say these guys seem to have quite a big budget for youtubers.

Do you have any tough pick ups that have no frills in the states but just keep going.

Bought a new plain contractor Ford F150 in 2001, never washed it, never changed the oil.
Drove it daily for 17 years and 230,000 miles.

Everything but the engine and drive train began to fail, door locks, window regulators, wipers, radio, alternator, steel tubing brake lines (this is why I ditched it), the minimal cloth headliner fell off, windscreen mounted rear view mirror fell in my lap and body rust.
Otherwise a robust vehicle. The engine, transmission and rear axle were in excellent working condition after nearly 20 years of neglect, however very little else remained functional.

The old basic no frills F100 was one. The older Datsun diesel (japanese) was pretty tough. The later model Chevy S10s through 2004 were pretty amazing. Any 3/4 ton Chevy "work truck." Not necessarily the LT or LTZ trucks depending on the years.

I have a love hate relationship with Ford. I still recall wanting to fix the dash lights in my 1978 F250 and watching in almost slow motion as all the gages rained out on the floor when I pulled the dash because it had completely disintegrated internally. My 1976 F150 was pretty good until somebody passed me on the left when I was making a left turn and bent the frame.

Toyota pickups have a heck of a reputation, but both times I went to buy one they had a major recall so I didn't. One year they had frames breaking, and the next year they had head gaskets blowing...

P.S. When I was a kid I always wanted a Subaru Brat 4x4, but now that I could afford one they don't make them anymore. In fact every vehicle Subaru makes is as ugly as sin now.

Drove the 2000 S10 for 20 years and 207,000 miles. Changed oil regularly, 3500 miles or so, engine was the best thing on it when I traded it in.

Got rid of it only because A) it was time, it didn;t owe me anything, and B) I needed a reliable no BS pickup for long trips. (Put 26,000 on the new one in a bit over a year).

I have 1996 F250 powerstroke 7.3l TDI 4x4 bench seat, power nothing, has pulled my boats, carried the 10ft camper, plowed snow with 8ft blade, has been a great truck and it is still going strong. I don’t use it much any more because diesel is more than gas, but it will start on any sub 0 F day and never has let me down. Tough ya I think so.

My GMC Sierra is 21 years old and going strong. No macho stuff on it, just factory plus a hitch for large trailers. But it leaves those Toys standing still.

I wish the US wasnt so weirdly infatuated with gigantic trucks, would make it easier to find something i like... My current truck is a 2012 Chevy Colorado base model. No fancy bells and whistles, i dont even have power locks or windows, but it run and drives, and the bed is big enough for me to haul around the things i need to which just wouldnt fit in a car trunk. Gas mileage is decent too. Pity there isnt much of a market for mid-size trucks in the US, itd be nice to see some competition. Pretty sure i could count the number of options on my hands, least the common ones, and even the common ones arent too common on the used market, in comparison to the full sized monstrosities

Wish people would realize that 90% of people with a truck bought way too much truck... Roads need smaller cars
