I'd love to have my truck get 40 mpg but I'll never live long enough for the difference in cost between my 1995 F250 with its 12 mph to make up for the cost of that new truck. My truck spends most of its time in the garage, only coming out to work. It don't look pretty but its paid for and it does work like hauling seeds to market, hauling seeds for planting, and plowing snow.
I have never seen any American internet poster say his truck was too big.
Yep 2012 f350 4x4 bed so tall can hardly reach over the sides, quite a big step to even get in the bed, 1994 toyota can easly reach in anywhere. Of course the toyota cannot do near the heavy pulling that the ford can, but why so tall?

MYF-150 truck IS too BIG! I hate it!!!!! There is no reason for a bed of a truck to be so high you can't load it easily. Not to mention trying to park it!

My 2019 Ranger is too damn big.
There, now you have.
And it's true.
But, it carries considerably more than the S10, and can tow a lot more. It also has over 2x the power of the S10, even though it has a similar size 4 cyl engine. The 270 HP has some real benefits.
And, despite size and power, it is getting mileage that the S10 never saw. Drove to Minnesota on Wednesday, mpg for the trip was 28.8 mpg. I never saw more than 24 mpg with the S10, so that is 116% of the mpg I got with the old truck.
Oh, yeah, the old question.... do you really NEED a truck? Well, yes. I've put 27,000 miles on it so far, and 80% or more of that has been with the bed full with what I'd need where I was going, what I had to take there, or what I was bringing back.
I sure don't mind getting better mileage loaded than the old, smaller, underpowered truck got when traveling unloaded.
Height? Yeah, it's high, and unloaded, the tailgate is the highest part of it. Mostly due to tires, plus the just-short-of-one-ton load capacity, which requires some spring travel distance, unless you want the springs to be so stiff that everything gets shaken to heck.
CNC machines only go through the motions.

My Ram 1500 is the 7th one I've had. Wouldn't trade a pick up for any other vehicle.
Maybe this would be ideal in my mind. Simple, easy to work on, basic truck.
Pretty close to mine, but mine is a '66 and I think that is a '65. Slightly different grill.
If you park this truck next to a modern 1/2 ton Ford it's amazing how small it looks. It actually is pretty close in size to my newer Tacoma. It does have more room in the bed, which is what a truck is for. Has a full 8 foot bed and the wrap-around rear bumper makes it easy to climb in with the tailgate down.
I have a 93 f-super duty (f450) with a flatbed. Yes it's a big truck but I have a machine shop, and routinely need the weight capacity. I almost bought a 26k gvw truck and there are times when I could use one. The f-super duty has been a great truck, I also have a 93 ranger that has been a pretty good truck as well.
I owned a short box truck once ( box under 8’) all of my other trucks have been long box’s,I haul to much Stuff.Current one 2018 Chev 3500 CrewCab 8’ box.
my 1990 S10 lasted a very long time, at 260,000 miles it was still running good, and sold it to get a full sized truck.
then I got 1998 Dodge Ram with the Cummins diesel, still got it, still runs as strong as new. had to replace heater core and A/C evaporator.
that Cummins changes the dodge into an entirely next level truck
When I was a kid, my dad had a green 66. I can still remember riding in it and hearing the gas slosh around in the tank behind the seat. I would love to get a 66 one of these days, but I already have a F250 for work and a Ranger for a daily driver.
