What Boring Bar Diameter

I really don't get it, what is the dispute for? I've tried both kinds of bars in my own machine, and its frelling obvious that solid carbide is much, much stiffer. Without even having to put numbers on anything. Hence my previous comment about just using the fattest bar you can get in the hole, and still clear the chips. (since most of us are stuck with steel bars)

I agree, This is one case where the fattest is the best, and I would add that the fattest with the least overhang will be the ultimate winner, every time. Regards David Powell.

N-c-f, no dispute on carbide vs. steel, the arguments come from soft vs. hard steel.
