You'd have no language problems if your skills are marketable there. I don't know if the Dutch have a shortage of tradesmen like the US does after decades of telling every kid to go to college and get an often worthless degree.

Glad it wasn't a sh*tshow again, hang in there.
I dont know if there is a need for tradesmen in Holland. I enjoy working. I would go in deep depression if I wasnt able to be employed . That said ,I have always worked for myself so it would be a big culture shock. To be honest I would rather stay in S Africa and fight for a good cause. Its my family I worry about.

I have fantasized about immigrating to Pitcairn Islands . A small beautiful Island smack in the middle of the big blue Pacific Ocean. I think If I could pack my workshop into a container and get it there I would do okay. I could be the local hacker /machinest /plumber /kayak fisherman /builder /gardener/ etc etc. ..There is only a population of 47 people on the Island.
Its nice to dream. It just looks so peaceful and beautiful and so far from all off the worlds problems.

    • I would guess that the demand for plumbers is high in the netherlands. It is probably about the same situation as here in Sweden with a serious lack of skilled(or any) tradesmen. If you want to make big money fast as a young kid I recommend learning a trade, plumber being a very good choice. If you want to educate yourself more you can always do that later and have something to fall back on.

Regarding pitcairn, you know it only takes two to start an argument. One Island probably has a feud going back 100 years with the neighbouribg Island. You dont want any part in that...

Disclaimer: I know nothing of the pitcairn Islands and apologize if I offended anyone.

Plumbing is extremely difficult to outsource to china. So are many other "trades". Engineering, finance, nearly any "desk job", can be done anywhere, theoretically, and more and more they are being done remotely by the lowest bidder.

The islands nearest to the Pitcairn Islands are Mangareva (of French Polynesia) at 688 km to the west and Easter Island at 1,929 km to the east.Did I mention Pitcairn is in the middle of nowhere.

            • Do you hold a dual citizenship with Holland - Netherlands? If so go to the embassy there in SA and explain to them the situation. Perhaps they can get you out and to Holland where you can work your trade.

I do have Dutch citizenship but my family don't. Its kinda weird. I see on tv all the suffering around the world and you watch the Central American convoys of refugees going to USA borders and you watch the Syrians and you feel sorry for them But its far away . You never think it can happen to you. Its pointless me going without my family .

My quality of life here so far has been very high. And S Africa is a beautiful place . Its just so sad that its falling apart so quickly.
