Some great ideas on here.. shorts can be a pain.. that is why I chose Horizontal storage, and it uses space that is not being used.

That depends on where horizontal is. On a wall may be OK providing it's not stacked up behind machinery with little room to get it out when needed. I do store stuff both ways in my shop. Long lengths of flat bar, round and angle over 7' long are stored above my over head door. PIA to try and get any of that stuff down. Stuff under 7' are stored in every corner of the shop, much easier to get at and sort through when needed.
