I got a green synthetic material that seems to have a better grip and doesn't glaze. Round belt seems more common because it is used on sewing machines but still gold rod would be cheaper if it were flexible.

Cool lathe no704! It looks a little newer than the one I've been working on. I'll see what I can see about casting marks etc, besides the LeBlond on it. I've actually been more occupied with cleaning it up than trying to identify its model. From what the museum tells me it hasn't been touched for something like 80 years.
