We use this fine forum freely , based on the gracious support of Village Press. They pay for Server Space while we load up the system with our postings
After a period of time , they may want to limit the posts (?) OR delete the history..... a valuable resource for us all
So how about refraining from re-posting pictures when responding to a post !
We all know what the picture is earlier in the thread and you can delete the picture reference when you use the ' Quote" button.
Doing that reduces valuable needed PC memory space so we can contribute to everyone's knowledge and support for a longer time before the Servers fill up.
Just a simple delete move will help us all
I hope George it is OK to post this ?
And our Thanks for the space !

The issue at hand is, quite literally, like begets like. You come in here, and everyone's posting pictures of their creations? You want to post a picture of yours, too. You come in here and everybody's just chatting about a broken cordless drill chuck and some old hats? Where's the incentive to join in?
As I said, I'm an enthusiast, machining and making one-off custom parts is literally my day job, and has been for over two decades now. I have subscriptions to all three magazines. But even I don't bother checking the board here on much past a once-weekly basis because there's so rarely anything new to see.
Worse, what little does get posted, gets entombed into unsearchable sub-threads that only a fraction of the regular readers even bother with.

To see if he is one of those people who is tries to impose his will
in places where he has no authority to do so. This type of person
has a defective personality, and is always subversive in their tactics
to try and control the world. They are sick individuals, and try to
rise to power through posing as a savior of the people in an attempt
to get acceptance of their cause, which is always an attack of the
same people the is trying to subvert.
Does it bother YOU that I ask this question ?

so bringing it up is like Willy stated a common courtesy, again scroll down to "my week this week" and then go to the last page and tell me that's something you want to see here all the time,,, everyone has their limits....

You want to see change? Or do you just want to whine? If it's change that you want, why don't you do something about it and post some of your work. Then since "like begets like", others are more likely to also. The more that you post on topic, the more likely others will.
On the other hand, if you just want to whine, then that whining is just what you are whining about (OT blather).

Checking your recent history, speaking of hypocrisy, anything with actual machining content was... posted to the "what did you do today?" thread.
"Kettle!" cried the pot. "How black thou art!".

"Search"? Don't make me laugh so hard, I choked on the coffee.
In the first place, the search is not very good. The ability to have exclusions etc is not very good, so you get thousands of hits on anything at all common. Search "toolpost". You get hundreds of results where on some totally unrelated thing, a poster mentions that they put "X" in the toolpost for that operation...... or some such
In the second place, while it does find things by post inside a thread, that gets so many hits on passing mentions that they just clutter up the results. A search returning 50 pages of results is not a search at all. You may as well scroll through the posts. Searching by title may miss a lot, but it cuts the number of "passing mentions".
All you really get with the search is a somewhat smaller "pile". You still may have dozens of pages of results to sift through and decide itf you will check each individual result. Most are going to be irrelevant, as mentioned previously.
At least with a title search, which is only possible or meaningful when you do NOT have "catch-all" threads, you can get all the threads where the poster was considerate enough to put the subject in the title. One decent thing about PM is that the titles must describe the subject, or they may get deleted or closed.
Doc has it EXACTLY described. Read and understand what he is saying. It is pretty much right-on.

Your comment about hypocrisy is way off target and frankly insulting.

The post and thread is relevant, useful and makes sense. Would you like this place to be useful? Or just a chit-chat location?Last edited by J Tiers; 12-06-2021, 02:51 PM.CNC machines only go through the motions.

Because I have been on the net for 25 years and seen some good forums fold -and do not want to loose this one
Because I have a website and know you PAY for volume and storage space ( regardless of comments made by some posters )
Because re posting Pictures is a waste of space , it's called redundancy
Because repetition is boring
Hope this answers your inquisitive mind Doozer !

You can say that about people you don't know perhaps, but keep in mind this BIG distinction :
I do not hide behind a "Handle" or "emoji" or any other poster ID- I use my real name - unlike some who can spout off and
hide their identity so their actions can never be weighed against them -----I call it Truth in packaging..!
There is no political ploy here , you either understand the issue, or you ignore it
