    If you really want to have a lady that jumps out of the cake
    put a LVDT or linear encoder on the cross slide and have
    the lathe radius control the RPM for automatic SFM based
    on tool radius. Just like on CNC lathes, when facing to the
    center, the motor automatically speeds up. That would be
    most useful for the time you are going to spend on a box
    that has more knobs and switches than a complicated
    woman.

      I wonder how you could use the cross slide dro scale output to input into arduino, rather than a separate sensor. It’s over my head but I bet it could be done

        cool project! I had a tentative dive into the world of Arduinos when I built the MC2100 motor controller for my lathe. I only use it to generate a speed signal but oh boy the stuff you could do with one if you had the wherewithal.
