    I'm Looking for a switch and don't know the name

    I'm looking for a switch but I don't know the name of it.
    I need a switch for a machine that has 2 controllers. The power would come in to the back of the transfer switch and wires from both controls #1&2 out the front.
    When #1 control is used the transfer switch senses the demand, and it would supply power to that control. The #2 control would be blocked until the #1 is shut off.

    Any idea what that type of switch is called.

    Sounds like you need something with a set of normally open contacts and a set of normally closed contacts on it.

      Who or what is making the decision as to which is in use?

      If the power is not supplied to a controller, how does it show a demand?

      Would this need be supplied adequately by you simply switching power to whichever control you want to use?
      CNC machines only go through the motions.

      Ideas expressed may be mine, or from anyone else in the universe.
      Not responsible for clerical errors. Or those made by lay people either.
      Number formats and units may be chosen at random depending on what day it is.
      I reserve the right to use a number system with any integer base without prior notice.

        Yeah, after posting above I’m not sure if what I wrote is what the OP is looking for or not.

          I would decide which controller to use .

          I 'm not sure how the demand works. Years ago we had a generator with its own battery. We had a drill plugged into it.
          When we pull the trigger on the drill it would start the generator. You had to manually shut the generator off.
          I thought I could find something a long those lines.

            Yeah, that was common on generators. They had a sensitive relay on them which would pull in on battery power if anyone closed a switch to a light etc. That would start the genset.

            You could use a plain DP3T switch with center off. One way #1 gets power, the other way #2 gets power, and with it in the middle, no power. Or you could have it sequentially off, #1, #2 if you liked.

              What machine are you talking about and what creates the demand?
              You should be able to find a double pole switch to do the deed manually.
              My new truck has a "feature" that once the engine is warm if I stop with my foot on the brake for more than a few seconds it kills the engine. If i let up on the brake at all or move the steering wheel or have happy thoughts it restarts. Yes there is button on the dash to disable the feature. I'm sure with a little ingenuity and maybe an Arduino you could do something automatically.
              A couple weeks ago I bought a little box that switches HDMI inputs to my TV depending on which one you turn on. It automatically switches between my dvd player and my wife's Switch.

                In my mind, this isn’t a switch but a task handled by a processor that favors one input over the other. I can’t help it, I’m a kid of the digital age.
