  • Keep It Or Upgrade?...Older Sherline Machines

I have several older Sherline lathes and mills that I am considering
either upgrading or selling and then buying a new Sherline machine.

For differences between old and new machines, I am referencing this
    link...

    http://www.sherline.com/usedmach.htm

How would you decide whether to keep and upgrade OR selling the machine
to buy a new one? What differences are important and which are just
    nice to have?

    Thanks for any advice.

One of the better changes is the laser engraved (white/silver against red anodize) handwheels. They are easy on the eyes compared to the old stamped ones. They are also zero-settable.

Other than that, a longer bed if you need it and a newer motor and controller are better behaved at low rpms (my old one kicks at startup and kicks at low rpms due to the controller type).

You can buy just about any newer part worth having and the prices aren't bad compared to machine tool replacement parts. Den

Im not familiar with the Sherline stuff but sounds like you need to do a cost effectiveness report. Will the added benefit outweigh the cost of upgrading for you? OR just screw it, you want the latest and greatest? Listen to your heart, only way you'll be truly happy.
