My neighbor works in an office. He said he NEEDED a pickup and bought a $75,000 Silverado. I wonder if any of the members on this forum have ever figured ,what it would cost to drive a truck like this? When I entered the work force in the 60s,entree level pickups cost$1999. Edwin Dirnbeck

Some DO need a pickup. We don't have a farm, but we use the Ranger a lot for things that a sedan or SW would not be useful for. we ran it off warranty in two years dealing with the Minnesota house, hauling stuff back and forth, moving things, etc.
The current Ranger is about the size of an older Silverado, no need for a truck that costs over 3x more.CNC machines only go through the motions.

At that price it would be a fully optioned version. But the last time I looked even work trucks started around $40,000 for 4x4 version. And then there is always the supply issue that is still going on. Local Chevy dealer is tacking on $5000 above MSRP as a "market" adjustment

Thanks to the kindness of my daughter I now drive her old Silverado, A dealer would have given her $ 6000 as trade in so we guess that is about what it is worth, It has 300, 000 km on the clock and many seem to go on for 500,000 or so, With care then I expect another 200, 000 from it,
I usually do better, but 12 mpg would be a reasonable guess. Allowing $ 2000 a year in repairs seems sensible.Pre Covid I travelled about 15,000 Ks annually. So that gives me about 13 yrs before it probably gets completely worn out and$ 26.000 in maintenance in that time. Now at 12 mpg, assuming $ 2 a litre or $8 a gallon I will likely spend $ 6500 or so on gas. before thr truck, and likely I give up altogether,
So why the hell would I ADD $75000 to that just to drive a newer shinier one?
Regards David Powell.

I find it interesting to read (not just here) about people curious about Other peoples money.. Hey guess what? Yup, some folks don't just spend as Needed. Some spend as they wish. And then there are those that will try to show how frivolous or dumb those people are..
IMO, petty thinking to look at how others spend their money. You know what it looks like from afar? Green. JR

Hope more people buy new.
When they get tired of it in a couple of years and it's value has dropped and it's on the used market I have more to select from.Last edited by portlandRon; 02-25-2022, 09:59 PM.
