So true. Its like some engineers are forgetting about the end user or they engineer the oil change in so you Have to take it to the dealer. Which I cant afford

Speaking of oil wrenches. My Yoda, the one I just did the oil change on uses the new style oil filter element and no metal canister. Good idea really, no need for metal cans being waisted. Problem with several I have had to change? The Fin wrenches, mostly garbage out there. I did manage to find a good one for the toy-yoda.. The wrench before this change got so locked onto the filter housing I had to rip it apart just to remove it and not ruin the expansive housing..

I came up with a fix, grease. I smeared a thin layer of grease on the inside of the wrench this time. Popped right off when I needed it to. Idea was probable out there Im sure, I didnt know about it. Just a thought. JR

A few years ago at a Corvette Coral presentation at Watkins Glen International, someone asked a Mobil lubrication engineer about shelf life of Mobil 1. His response was shelf life is not an issue. Interesting in light of what Cuttings found from his research. Maybe the engineer thought that 'Vette drivers weren't suquirreling away Mobil 1 for years. I've been using Mobile 1 for years with no issues ; but try to use my old stock first.

FWIW in certain oils iv seen dark sediment on the bottom of the jug, and yeah depends on the oil but in high grade performance blends it most likely is just molybdenum disulfide settling out... very good friction reducing agent in fact even if parts run a little "dry"... and Moly D is black,

so if your using a good grade oil that's been sitting on the shelf for awhile - or you got from a store with very little turn-over, don't hesitate to shake the crap out of it before you pour it in the engine... it's a good thing...

I know... See I bought this oil when I thought I needed it for a car, never happened so the oil sat in its cardboard case. Yeah, Im a hoarder so that doesn't help either. JR
