  • How to Transfer Photos from Android Phone to PC

What do you folks with Android phones use to transfer the photos to a PC?

    Phone:
    Nokia G50
    Android V 12

    PC:
    Generic
    Windows 10

I do have a USB cable that connects them. But perhaps that is not the best way? My previous Android phone simply showed up in the Windows file manager when I plugged them together. No problems. No Apps. Just drag and drop. Have I lost this simple ability with the new phone?

And if you look REAL close at an analog signal,
You will find that it has discrete steps.

you likely have to change the usb mode. most of the time it defaults to "charge only", and it it wont register. Can't tell you exactly where to find that setting, but look around it'll be there.

also test the usb cable, could be bad or as I have found in more than one, missing the data wires (probably came with chargers & they were saving cost)

ps--the windows file transfer kinda sucks, its slow, you can do anything else(explore, move files) while a transfer is active and for some reason it almost always stops saying my hard drive is full when there are 100's of gig's free. then I gotta figure out which files it did or didn't finish, real pain. My point is, I often pull the sd card & stick it in a thumb drive. then its just a usb3 stick. You could do the same.

I've had more than a few Android phones and have always transferred the photos to a PC the same way that you do, through the USB cable. The phones always connect to the PC as if they are drives. Sometimes it takes a while to find the photos folder, but it has always worked without changing settings or any other nonsense.

I usually just auto upload to the cloud so all my devices have access. Not worried about hackers seeing photos of skies and machined parts.

I have the same problem getting my G5 to connect to my
laptop. Most of the time I just share a photo or two to my
email. Then open my email with my laptop and save.
If anyone has found exactly how to get them off the phone
with a cable I also would be interested.
I've read most of the guides on the internet and it still won't
            connect.

              Phone Link! No cable required.
              https://www.pcworld.com/article/6282...hone-link.html

And you can text from your PC
. Works great and easy to set up.

Move files with a USB cable from an Android phone.
                ------------------------------------------------------------

                Unlock your phone.
With a USB cable, connect your phone to your computer.

On your phone SETTINGS menu, click on CONNECTED DEVICES,
then tap USB ("charging this device").

Under "USE USB FOR" select File Transfer.

A file transfer window will open on your computer. (You may have to minimize other windows that are covering up the File Trasfer Window)
Then click on OPEN DEVICE TO VIEW FILES USING WINDOWS EXPLORER.
                Use it to drag files.

When you're done, unplug the USB cable.

As stored on my Desktop. Developed by a friend of mine.

                  Computer on the house wifi?
Try downloading an app called HP Quick Drop on the pc and the phone. It should work on your machines.
It's a free wireless drag and drop program to send files back and forth. I use it daily.

Or as Lew says use a usb cable. Go into settings on the phone, Connections, and set the USB as file transfer. Your computer will see the phone as just another hard drive.

I use and like X-plore which uses WiFi to transfer files. It shows up when you choose to share something like a photo. If you open X-plore and select a PC with a shared directory, that directory and all its children show up as target potential. Pick one and Okay it. Done.

If you only want to transfer the "keepers", email them to yourself. When they show up in your computer email, just right click on them and "save as". That's what I do.

Lew H. Described what I do with my Motorola phone. Connect the cable, - Settings, - Connected devices,- USB,- file transfer.
With that I go the phone drive icon that appears on the desktop or in the directory structure, and select "internal shared storage ,the DCMI directory, camera.
All the image files on my camera show up . I sort by date and time...

Curious thing too, when connected to the pc this way, the phone camera won't take pictures. Well, It will take a picture, give it a file name, but the file size is zero.

                        Such is life....

this. Google photos works great. The only time a cable is attached to my phone in recent years is for charging, mostly because the wireless charger is slow.

My experience is the same as DrMike Try a different USB cable, some are charge only, no data transfer.
                            It's all mind over matter.
If you don't mind, it don't matter.

jmark had a good answer. If I'm out of wifi range or away, I'll attach a photo or three in a text sent to my email address. Big files are a problem as email systems don't seem to like anything over about 20 mb.
When I get home there they are. Save edit etc.as you wish.
