If something is late I always go to amazon chat and they will usually give me a credit for being late for the item or send me another and let me keep the one that comes late.
I did order a nice Glass Lian-Li computer case last year. Hear a noise at my front door, open it to find the case. Seconds later I get an email from amazon that says they item was undeliverable and I would be receiving a refund, which I did. Free computer case!

I have had good luck with both Amazon and eBay. I'll shop on Amazon, and then check prices on eBay and just a general search once I find what I'm looking for a do a cost/benefit analysis on where to purchase. I have Prime and an Amazon CC, so the cash-back also enters into the decision. There have been a couple of instances over the years when Amazon reports that an item has arrived at a facility, but then gets lost so I cancel and re-order. If something is coming from China on Amazon, I can usually get it a) faster and b) sooner off eBay.
If I have a real issue with Amazon, I work my way through their online customer support to get to the screen where they will call you, and work it out.
The only problem of note I have had on eBay is on a recent order that was coming from China: PTFE 15mm ID x 22mm OD washers (only locally available were 14mm or 16mm ID). I got a tracking number and an automatic email from the Seller that they were shipped, but then two days later a new message saying that they weren't available. After a couple of message exchanges, the Seller told me that the parts were located in Shanghai and the latest shutdown had blocked the shipment. The washers weren't for an immediate need, so no big deal — the Seller cancelled the order, PayPal gave me my money back and the Seller says they will contact me once the item can the shipped so I can re-order.
Delivery times from China and India have been very good (one supplier I deal with in India ships FedEx at no additional charge, so I get things sooner than if they were coming from the west coast). USPS delivery times have also improved, to the point where I am getting 1st class packages from Washington state sooner than "2-day priority."

Yes I have a few complaints about Amazon, especially the Prime delivery. But I have gotten stuff from them that the local folks just shrug their shoulders or have No idea what you want!! I find that in many cases folks that complain about not being able to source certain shop related items, hardware, fluids, etc. simply won't get out of their comfort zones in order to locate items locally. And by locally I mean within a 25-50 mile radius, but often much closer, especially in metropolitan ares.
They won't look at industrial supply houses, ag dealers, repair shops, heavy equipment dealers, and the many businesses that service these industries. These are more often than not, located in large cities.
Most large cites are great sources of shop related items, yet unless it is in the comfort zone of many folks, (Walmart, auto parts supply,Home Depot, etc) many will simply throw their hands up in dispair because their usual source of instant gratification, or Amazon or Ebay is not accommodating their needs.
Sometimes folks just have to look for and go into a business that they've never been into even if they feel a bit uncomfortable at first. Big cities and the area surrounding them are a great wealth of resources.
Also I find that many people have been led into the instant gratification mode of acquiring and fulfilling their needs. Rather then planing ahead and being more self reliant they want it now.
Many who walk into my shop will ask, why so much stuff? Because I may need it at 5 PM on a Sunday night.
I can't cover all the bases but I'll go to plan B (deal with it and wait) when that happens. Life is too short to fret over the small stuff..

I've be watching and reading this post and thought it was time for me to chime in.....I live on the Oregon Coast hwy 101. Most of the business here are Tourist oriented and very overpriced. There is not a local metal supplier or tool supplier other than Walmart or Fred Myer. The closest real suppliers are a minimum of 60 miles one way. So almost all my purchases that relate to my little home hobby shop is made on line, Amazon is my go to supplier. I have made near 50 purchases so far this year. Out of those 50, NOT ONE problem with Amazon. Any problems is via the USPS or UPS or FedX. There have been a couple of time when a seller has said they won't ship to a P.O. Box... I don't get mail delivered to my physical address, only to P.O Box. There has been times when a supplier ships via UPS or FEDX with only my PO Box and the address, needless to say that causes a item to be sent back,,,I say back, it's actually into a huge Black hole. In all those cases, a note to Amazon and they either give a refund or correct the shipping method. I think those blaming Amazon for their problems are not looking at the real cause of their problems.

My wife lives off Amazon. If there isn't an Amazon package on the porch every day it's strange. She returns items all the time with no problems. We're both happy with Amazon.
But, that wasn't the case a couple year ago. I was talking to Amazon customer service about a trivial problem that should have been easy to fix. For some reason he wasn't understanding what I was telling him. So he tells me he's going to put a hold on our account. OMG, you have no idea how many phone calls and begging and pleading it can take to reinstate an account with a hold on it. There is no easy way to reinstate.
