-This. Evan hosted his own photos, just like I do, rather than on Photobucket or similar. I suspect he may have had his own server- that is, not one in a co-location facility, but literally a box in his basement (or wherever.) I know several people that do the latter, hosting their own website or web-sever, etc. and it wouldn't surprise me a bit had Evan done the same thing.

But at the end, he was supposedly moving out in order to literally live in a camper and be more or less always on the move. No way to have the same sort of server in that arrangement, and he probably didn't want to hand all his data over to a colocation server farm to keep things going. So he simply shut it off and said sayonara.

    Doc.

      Doc.
He absolutely did have that. He said so, and mentioned that stuff would be going off-line, as I recall. If it is just attachments that are gone, then the issue is just his server no longer existing.

I simply don't know personally about old posts, as I have not looked for them. If he did not delete them (as several have claimed he did), then I have to apologize for repeating the false claim. I certainly am not interested in amplifying fake news.

I also mentioned 3PL as deleting a lot of posts, and I personally DO know he did. He seemed to have left multi-page blank spaces as well, evidently just to make things difficult. Those two situations may be different. I am pretty sure 3PL intended to cause trouble, and I think he actually said so.

JR I don't believe that's what Aostling was referring too, I think he was meaning that because he could not delete his own thread how could have Evan deleted all of his?

unless a request from the higher ups? don't know maybe im the one way off here, I believe we can delete our own content in threads --- but can we totally delete the entire thread? I don't believe we can do that, so guess the question is - how far did Evan take it?

He told me his tested IQ which wasn't nearly as high as he would have liked it to be. He also said he was tested for Asberger's and he was not on the spectrum. He was a legend in his own mind. Some of the stuff he wrote to me was not even borderline crazy and dangerous but over the top criminal. I hammered him really hard and after this exchange he quit the forum. You all can thank me he is gone. He was actually quite fragile in his mind. He is certainly one that should not be allowed on any University campus.
That's sad to hear things were that bad, I of course knew he struggled with things as he put that out there but this sounds pretty serious,,,

this post is getting strange to me as JR stated - almost like talking about someone in a "past tense"...

3PL deleted his own posts. I think that is what is claimed was done. You'd have to hack the forum in a big way to do threads, and that would probably mess up the entire forum database, making it unusable in any practical way.

If you could hack it to retain the thread as a "blank", with each post retained as a "blank" within the thread structure, then the database would be OK, the thread would still exit, but the content of the thread would not exist. A huge amount of work, unless automated.

3PL is/was a programmer, and apparently a good one. It may be possible to create a "bot" to do post searches on your name, and replace each post automatically with spaces. That would cut the work of deleting, and probably would be an interesting project. I can see 3PL doing that.

That's what I was referring to earlier when I mentioned that I was a bit worried about Evan. He did have a fairly large upheaval, divorces are like that, turning everything upside down. That can have a serious effect on people who really rely on stability.

Folks who are up the Asperger's scale are more affected by sudden big changes. I've seen that with family members. Guessing that Evan likely is, that would not be at all good......

I agree with everything said in the thread. I also consider Evan to be in my own list of the smartest people I've met. He always was expanding my knowledge on topics.

I remember, for example, the oil leak and fire in the Gulf of Mexico. He was posting the physics and the problem while the rest of the world was wondering why it wasn't put out. I could see that other members had bulging veins and arteries when replying to Evan.

I wouldn't be surprised if Evan is locked away somewhere in an asylum for the criminally insane. No joke. Especially if he did in fact spend any time in any way at a University.

I certainly didn’t know about the exchange between blackforrest and Evan, BF didn’t mention it but to be honest I wouldn’t expect him to, he’s not that kind of guy, I think I may well have been fooled, I am sometimes a little nieve to say the least, I had no idea he was so “ fragile”, I thought he was just eccentric

-Sorry, JR, but the man quite deliberately made himself a sort of public figure, at least in our little circle. He injected himself into innumerable conversations, and often as not, expressed that his solution, and his alone, was the only correct course of action.

One cannot act thus and then expect not to be spoken of afterward.

-Yessir. And Black Forest could tell you that you have it all wrong.

I could tell you the same thing: One interaction I had with Evan was over Copyright, something I knew a bit about, being an active published cartoonist at the time, who would occasionally use cameos of other copyrighted characters.

He had mentioned something about a copyright, and I corrected him. He disagreed, I quoted then-current US Copyright Law, and linked to the appropriate passage. He said no, that didn't apply. I countered that yes, it did very much apply, and so on and so forth.

The law was quite unambiguous, but once he had stated his position, it was impossible for him to admit a mistake. He couldn't even say "you might be right, I'll have to look in on that", it was no, you're 100% wrong and if you publish, you'll be fined and hopefully jailed!" (That latter part I admit is a bit of an exaggeration. )

We don't talk about Sir John or Thrud this way, because most of us respected them. For all too many here, Evan, even with his clear skills and knowledge, never quite earned that level of respect, entirely due to how he treated others.

                            Doc.

I think we all need a Paul Harvey, "now you know the rest of the story" bit with Evan, due to how he just vanished and deleted his online persona.

I believe you can delete Threads but I am sure there are still copies around on the server they use here.
