I don't understand it. The OP wanted way oil at a reasonable price. And in stock.

McMaster has way oil, at a reasonable price, and IN STOCK. I checked again. It is available or that's what their web site says.

So why all the prolonged discussion about home brew substitutes?

    ?????????

Oh, wait! The price has jumped up to $28.39. A whopping $2.07 increase. Better stock up fast.

They also have Mobil Vactra No. 4 in stock for $32.74 for one gallon.

    Am I missing something?

Not Vactra 2, but described as "Slide and Way Oil, ISO Grade 68, 1-gal Jug, Clear". McMaster has not disappointed me.

I sing at the bar. But apparently I sing so bad that I usually end up buying everyone shots so they let me continue singing.

Because it wasn't available when I checked or made the thread. Simple as that.

What the hell is it that stumps you dumbasses? If it moves just put some kind of oil on it. Oil is oil.

Hard to detect sarcasm or lack of sarcasm in a text message.

Used to work with a guy that used WD-40 on a 50-ton ironworker. Union millwright, no less.

The best machine oil is clear pure ODERLESS mineral oil from the farm store. I think they rub it on horses.

Used IN the horse, as a laxative.

While you're at the farm store look for winter grade chainsaw bar oil. About as close as you can get to way oil when you're running low and need a reasonably inexpensive substitute.

And rumor has it that bar oil and way oil are the same thing in different packages. I've been using bar oil for nearly 20 years. That said, the price of bar oil has gone up, and Rich is always worth listening to.

Right-ho........... Didja know that gun oil will work a lot better in your tranny and differential than the stuff they sell for those? The car makers don't want you to find out about that..............

Thats why I like to cut my grease down with kerosene. Works on everything. Sort of like anal sex.

I am appreciating this thread because here it is difficult to find specialized oil. If I were in São Paulo, I'm sure I could find it.

But here it is difficult. Therefore, an alternative oil, like bar oil, is a great thing. Bar oil is easy to find.

That's right. I don't know if it's worth a crap, but I love its red color, fabulous name and old-timey label. Back in my bicycle racing days I was told by a questionable source that the magic lube for hubs was one part STP and three parts MMO. At the bike shop we used it in the oilers for our repair stand pneumatic clamp heads. I used to call Strawberry Crush soda-pop "Marvel Mystery Oil Soda."

So... Guessing you're not the dumbass from YouTube that tried using WD-40 as engine oil and seized his engine? No, oil is not oil - there are different varieties for very good reasons. If you would like to shorten the life of your machinery and equipment, feel free, go right ahead. But don't spread misinformation that causes others that are not well informed to unintentionally do the same. Some substitutions are safe for equipment, some are not.
