Unless you are changing color, you don't need to wash the pump and you can clamp the tube end to keep the paint from dripping. You could use multiple pumps on a long shaft of one motor with a simple dog clutch to change colors. This way you just change and wash the brush part

That machine would get you laughed out of Germany. No way it is more practical that stencils.

Now if you think back on your first comments about my sheep shearing machine you said something along those lines to me! Ha ha ha. Something about your relatives laughing their heads off. But you did come around somewhere along the way to at least telling me my machine wasn't awful. Now I will tell you how I really thing. I think what you have built is great. It isn't quite there yet but you are much further along than I thought you would get when you talked about using a brush. Great job.

There are a few issues to be sorted with the brush machine...

The process is very sensitive as regards the height above the work and of course sheets of plywood always have some areas that do not naturally lie flat on the table, moving weights around is possible but not desirable if it means placing weights on newly painted areas. Of course if I built a vacuum table that would not be a problem. A floating brush holder is a potential answer.

The rotating brush leaves a wavy shaped line as the bristles do not all follow the same path. Turning the brush faster might help but the motor I am using is barely powerful enough at the slow speeds.

The plan was to use house paint straight out of the bucket but the pump is struggling to handle that and it requires assistance to prime. Thinning the paint is called for I think...

Nonetheless it is quite calming to watch when everything is going well although a total rebuild may be a soon-to-be project!

The "product" this machine was built for is road-side signs, right? If so, I suspect that the waviness will be undetectable (unnoticeable) at normal viewing distances.

Yes, that is true and with everything else resolved it probably will not be an issue.
