The sine of 6 degrees is 0.105, which would move the toolpost one tenth for every thousandth of the compound dial. So 7 degrees plus some still seems a mystery.
The sine of 7.125o (7o 7.5') is close to 0.125, so maybe 1/8 inch per inch?http://pauleschoen.com/pix/PM08_P76_P54.png

When I use spell check, which is often, I frequently take a side trip to an on-line dictionary for the meaning. I highly recommend it.

What is needed is an "herror" checker. Armed with a dictionary of homophones, it would flag every time one of the words in the dictionary was used. The user could then click on the flagged word and the checker would show in a drop down window the two (or more) choices with a short description of their meaning. The user could then click on the desired meaning and that word form would be inserted into his document. Simply hitting the space bar would indicate that the user had already typed the correct form.
If anyone wants to take a stab at writing such software, I have a collection of common homophone pairs, made from years of reading the execrable writing available on the interweb. I'd be glad to contribute it to the effort.
Of course, before devoting any effort to such a tool, we have to puzzle out a way to get people to care about their writing. From what I've seen that's impossible. People who will argue about tenths of thousandths in places where a few thousandths would be fine still can't distinguish between "their" and "there".Regards, Marv
